Her extensive experience in assisting medical professionals navigate HIPAA rules when they’ve encountered a breach of patient data offered clear points to be considered for all medical practioners.
Ms. Thompson practices in the area of civil litigation, including general negligence, medical malpractice, personal injury and employment law. She focuses her practice on representing hospitals, physicians, employers and other insureds in complex litigation. Ms. Thompson has represented healthcare providers, including physicians, dentists, and nurses before regulatory agencies on matters concerning discipline and licensure. She has also represented healthcare providers in responding to HIPAA violations before the Office for Civil Rights as well as assisted providers in breach notifications required under the HITECH Act. Ms. Thompson consults with physicians and health care entities in various regulations and issues relating to Medicare, DEA, and STARK. She has presented several seminars and in-house training on various HIPAA issues.
